In fact, her abusive relationship began at the age of 15 when her high school sweetheart started physically tormenting and psychologically abusing her.
He would threaten me, and tell me if I ever left him he would kill me. I began to believe him and He started forcing me to skip school lunch and have sex with him.

A complex combination of factors can impact youth health outcomes. LGB youth are at greater risk for depression, suicide, substance use, and sexual behaviors that can place them at increased risk for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases STDs. For example, research has shown that in schools with LGB support groups such as gay-straight alliances , LGB students were less likely to experience threats of violence, miss school because they felt unsafe, or attempt suicide than those students in schools without LGB support groups.
Parental rejection has been linked to depression, use of drugs and alcohol, and risky sexual behavior among teens. If bullying, violence, or depression is suspected, parents should take immediate action, working with school personnel and other adults in the community. The following are research-based steps parents can take to support the health and well-being of their LGB teen: Parents who talk with and listen to their teen in a way that invites an open discussion about sexual orientation can help their teen feel loved and supported.
Parents should have honest conversations with their teens about sex and how to avoid risky behaviors and unsafe situations. Parents should develop common goals with their teen, including being healthy and doing well in school.
Evaluating Your Youth Ministry Program (Part 1)
Lots of what questions, why questions, and how questions are filling my thoughts and my journals. It brought me back to a college course on curriculum and program development, where the prof unpacked two models for evaluating ministry programs: Both based on 20th-century educators, the basic principles translate well into the world of youth ministry and have been helpful for me in the evaluation process. The questions revolve around the relationship between where the boxes connect:
Fervr interviews regular contributor Alex Greaves for his thoughts on Christians, dating, and sexual purity. Alex, what does the Bible say about dating? Okay, does the Bible say anything that might impact Christians when they begin thinking about dating and sexual purity? A man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. For those who are not married, we get this command from 1 Timothy 5:
When It Comes To Romantic Attraction, Real Life Beats Questionnaires
By Mary Gormandy White Every youth leader needs a bevy of games and activities on hand for youth group. Keeping a ‘stock’ of games and ideas to use in a pinch will prove to be a lifesaver. Design your activities with your group member’s ages in mind, and the kids will have fun no matter how silly or serious the activities are. Fun Game Activities Who said youth group can’t be a little on the silly side? These types of activities can help to bring shy individuals out of their shells and get them to participate in future activities.

Who am I supposed to date if I don’t date non-members? Don’t limit yourself to people in your school. Are there any youth in your ward or stake who aren’t related to you? Are there stakes close by? Is it possible that an area-wide event could be scheduled to help LDS youth meet each other? Talk to your leaders about that. If there really is no one to date in your whole area, maybe you should wait to date. Instead, develop yourself, read good books, work on talents and Personal Progress, do sports, etc.
While dating is fun now, it isn’t necessary. So if there is no one who meets your standards, just have fun with your family and friends until there are some. One more thing, work on reactivating less-active members and do missionary work, though don’t date to share the Gospel. Invite people to Church activities.

Tweet One of the best parts of my job of being a pastor is that I am able to lead two small groups. I have been a small group leader for about thirteen years as I believe strongly in the value and benefits of small groups. There are many things that I love about being involved in small groups but often the main reason that people join a group is to get to know other people better. In these groups friendships are often developed that help people grow together to be more like Jesus. I say all of that to tell you how committed that I am to small groups.
Small Group Leader The small group leader is very important to the group. This sounds like a simple statement but it is oh so critical. I have the privilege of overseeing the small group ministry in our church and I love investing in the lives of our leaders. There are many key elements to being a good small group leader but one thing that is so important to the group is to have everyone be involved in every aspect of the group.
This includes the Bible Study discussion and prayer time too.
